Bay of Islands The Landing
Our 2019 The Landing Syrah, a heady perfume of wild cherry, dense dark berry fruits, fine cocoa powder, tobacco leaf and cracked pepper.
A silken mouth feel of black cherry, red stone fruit, rosemary and all spice. A smoky long finish with fine grippy tannins makes for a seriously impressive wine.
Vineyard & Winemaking
Hand-harvested at optimal ripeness after a long, warm summer, this Syrah was open-top fermented, gently pressed and then matured in French oak barriques for 18 months. Approximately 25% was fermented as whole clusters and allowed an extended maceration.
The near perfect conditions during the 2019 Vintage has produced beautifully expressive wines that will be very long lived. A heady perfume of wild cherry, dense dark berry fruits, fine coco powder, tobacco leaf and cracked pepper.
Textbook juicy, mouth-watering acidity of black Doris plum. A silken mouth feel of black cherry, red stone fruit, rosemary and all spice. A smoky long finish with fine grippy tannins makes for a seriously impressive wine. Drinking well today and rewarding patience for the next 7-10 years.
The Landing Vineyard on the Purerua Peninsula is bathed in long sunshine hours throughout the growing season, with a forgiving maritime breeze. Perfect for growing the Syrah grape, and the hundreds of years of agriculture that came before us.
Warm and generous bouquet with aromas of ripe black currant, tart rapsberry, dark plum and wild red flowers. There's a deep core of rocky, mineral clay soil and forest scents adding complexity. Youthful too with pronounced aromas of oak with a smoke, baking spice and bacon scents. Distinctive on the palate with flavour combinations of dark berries and cocoa powder, barrel spices, smoke and earthy stony flavours. Tannins are bold, acidity noted - both providing foundation and power. A lovely wine that requires time to relax and develop still, but also drinkable upon purchase - best served with food. Ideal drinking from mid to late 2022 through 2028+. 95 points
