Bay of Islands vineyard and winery The Landing Wines is thrilled to announce that three of its wines have been awarded gold medals – including one double gold medal – at the recent SommCon Concours d’Vin 2022, held in San Diego, USA.
The Landing 2020 Chardonnay received a Double Gold medal, while The Landing 2019 Syrah and The Landing 2021 Rosé both received Gold medals.
“This is a wonderful acknowledgement of the quality of our wines at an international level, and it’s particularly pleasing to be recognised across three very different varieties,” says The Landing Wine General Manager, Peter Jones.
San Diego Mission Bay Resort played host to the competition, where national and international wines were put to the test in a blind tasting format to demonstrate excellence in quality and craftsmanship. The competition series – which also included a Concours d’Spirits – is presented by The SOMM Journal, a nationwide US wine, spirit and beverage journal.
The competitions featured six judging panels of beverage industry leaders, educators, winemakers, sommeliers, buyers and more.
From 6-8 November, The Landing Wine will appear at SommCon San Diego, a leading conference and expo for the wine, beer, and spirits industry. New Zealand Master Sommelier Cameron Douglas will be presenting at the conference.
Douglas recently described The Landing 2020 Chardonnay that received the Concours d’Vin Double Gold medal as “an elegant and pure expression of Chardonnay, with a weighty texture and core fruit flavours that reflect the variety but also show off Northland’s proclivity for the variety.”
